Excerpted from a letter written in 1961 by Loyce PRINCE (ARLEDGE) to Willie Mae TAYLOR (JORDAN):
Dad said his grandfather was born in North Carolina, one of three children (2 boys and a girl). Their parents died and the children were ``farmed out'' as it was called then. The other boy and girl were in one home, while his grandfather (John Prince) went to another. The people he was given to were so mean to him that the man who took the other two, helped him to run away and he drifted to LA at about the age of 14 or 15 (she must have meant Mississippi). He never heard from his brother and sister again and I do not know their names.
