Hunter, A.J.
A.J. Hunter, age 90, a resident of Austin, died Thursday, January 15, 2004. A.J. was born in Rayville, Louisiana on December 27, 1913, the son of the late William Dudley and Julia Fay Silk Hunter.
A.J. joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and served two terms in San Antonio. He worked for the State of Texas and retired after 19 years. A.J. was a member of the Manchaca Baptist Church. A.J. was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Lura Hunter of Austin; sons, Tommy Hunter and wife, Jenny of Leander and Tim Hunter and wife, Judy of Round Rock; daughters, Linda Craig and husband, Richard of Terrell and Sue Hodge of Leander; stepdaughters, Lana Sykes of Baton Rouge, LA and Lanette Wachsmann of Austin; nine grandchildren; four step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and five step grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2004, at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2004, at Harrell Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Reverends Bob Gardner and Tom Gautier of Manchaca Baptist Church officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at McDade Cemetery in McDade, TX.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Manchaca Baptist Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
