Aaron L. Melton Is Killed By Lightning Thurs. A. M.

Efforts Made To Revive Camp Claiborne Employee Are Unsuccessful

Aaron L. Melton of Winnfield, an employee of Horace Williams Company at Camp Claiborne was killed by lightning at 1 o clock Thursday morning while working in the tool house at the camp as a tool checker. It was said that he was found at his desk with the telephone receiver down.

Melton was rushed to the Baptist Hospital at Alexandria and placed in an iron lung in an attempt to revive him but all effort were unsuccessful.

Melton was 21 years of age and was the son of Mr. and Mrs.Luther Melton of Winnfield. he married Miss Lanell (?) of Winnfield last April 23. He was hired as a truck driver at the camp Nov. 20 and later became tool checker. He went from his home in Winnfield each night to his work, leaving here between 9 and 9:30 p.m.

The deceased is survived by his widow, Mrs. Verda Lanell Mixon Melton of Winnfield; three brothers, Ernest L Melton of Monterey, Calif., James R. Melton of Winnfield and A. Leonard Melton of Winnfield; two sisters Syble and Carolyn Melton, both of Winnfield; parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Melton of Winnfield.

Funeral arrangements had not been completed Thursday afternoon, but it was said that burial would be made in the Winnfield cemetery some time Friday pending arrival of his brother from California.
