A BELOVED WOMAN SUCCUMBS TO DEATH

Mrs. N. B. Hammock, Member of Pioneer Family, Dies As Result of Pneumonia Following an Illness of Only a Few Days.

God called to rest on Saturday morning last at 11:20 o'clock, Mrs. Ada Virginia Hammock, the beloved wife of Mr. N. B. Hammock. A few days previous to her death Mrs. Hammock was removed from her home in Butler to the Allen Sanitarium at Milledgeville for treatment. About the time of her removal she developed pneumonia and rapidly grew worse until the end came as stated above.

The remains of Mrs. Hammock being brought to Butler Sunday beautiful funeral services were held from the Bethel Primitive Baptist church, of which the deceased was a devoted member, at 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon, the impressive service being conducted by her pastor, Elder Morgan Williams, followed by interment in the family lot in Bethel cemetery. A larger assemblage of friends and relatives is seldom seen at a funeral than was present to pay tribute to Mrs. Hammock, who has passed into the beyond carrying with her the good will and good fellowship of all who knew her. She is survived by her husband and the following children: Mrs. J. H. Newton, Jack, Hollis, Oscar, Annie May, Mary and George Hammock, besides two sisters, Mrs. G. C. Smith and Mrs. E. A. Hollis, and three brothers, Messrs. T. J., J. E. and R. L. Fountain.

In the life of Mrs. Hammock one found all that the word beautiful could imply. In her pathway she scattered sunshine of love and devotion -- lightning many a heavy heart. She was always of an optimistic nature, full of wit and humor, yet ready at a moment's warning to lend a helping hand for a noble cause, or to provide for the poor and needy. She is a descendant of one of the county's pioneer and most prominent families. Her father, the late A. J. Fountain, was one of the most influential men of this section in his day and one of the largest land owners and most successful farmers. She was born in this county December 29, 1888 and July 20, 1904 was happily married to Mr. N. B. Hammock.

The sympathy of the entire community goes out to each of the bereaved ones, and especially to the husband, who is bereft of a companion and loved one. A more devoted couple is seldom seen and the tearing asunder is sad indeed.

The following from a distance attended the funeral of Mrs. Hammock: Mrs. J. T. Willis, Gretna, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Willis, Tallahassee, Fla.; Mr. O. H. Hammock, Cordele, Ga.; Mrs. H. T. Wall and Mr. and Mrs. John Brooks, Americus; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Walls, Macon; Mr. J. E. Fountain, Gorgas, Ala.
