Mrs. Agnes Smith Jones

SHREVEPORT, LA - Services for Mrs. Agnes Smith Jones, 98, will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 20, 1997 at Rose-Neath's Marshall Street Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. William F. Mayo, associate pastor of First United Methodist Church of Shreveport. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 1997 at Rose-Neath's Marshall Street Chapel.

Mrs. Jones died Wednesday, June 18, 1997 at Schumpert Medical Center after a sudden illness. She was born in Dodson, La. and had resided in Shreveport since 1952. Mrs. Jones was a homemaker, a charter member of the United Methodist Women and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Shreveport. She was also a member of the Women's Department Club and she and her husband were charter members of East Ridge Country Club. Mrs. Jones' grandfather, William Austin Smith, published the first newspaper in Winnfield, La. and her other grandfather was Zachary T. Faith.

Mrs. Jones was married to Lonnie L. Jones for 68 years before his death in 1988.

Survivors include a daughter, Doris and her husband, R. P. Coleman; one granddaughter, Virginia and her husband, James Jacob all of Jacksonville, Fl.; one great-grandson, Leon Armbrester, Jr.; one great-granddaughter, Victoria A. Parks; one sister, Mrs. Edith Terral, Shreveport, La.; two brothers, Verne Smith, Start, La. and Harold Smith, Chalmette, La.

Pallbearers will be Charles Dillman, Humphrey Vos, Don Schimschock, Charles Lunan, Tom McElroy and Felix Arceneaux.
