Albert H. (Bill) Boyd
Bill Boyd, 84 of Starkville passed away on November 13, 2014.
Dr. Boyd was retired from Mississippi State University where he served as Department Head and Professor of Agronomy. His professional career was highly respected for his expertise in Seed Technology and Agronomy. He was known globally for his contributions to seed production, quality, and storage. Throughout his career he served local, state, national, and international agricultural organizations in various capacities and was honored for his contributions. Dr. Boyd was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 1986. He was an advisor to countless students, both national and international and was known as a great scientist, educator, instructor, and administrator. Dr. Boyd was a graduate of Mississippi State University where he received his BS, MS, and PhD.
Dr. Boyd was devoted to his family and is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn Stowers Boyd, his children, William H. (Bill) Boyd of Starkville, MS, Mary Windsor Boyd Saggus (John) of Birmingham, AL, Rebecca Boyd Bates (Drew) of Brookhaven, MS, his grandchildren Britton Boyd (Pam) of Pullman, WA, Amanda Boyd Simmons (Josh) of Edmund, OK, Dan Saggus (Ashley) of Birmingham, AL, and great grandchildren Meredith Simmons, Connor Simmons, Charlie Saggus, and Cole Saggus.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Starkville, MS, to Mississippi State University, Department of Plant and Soil Sciences, or the charity of your choice.
Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., Monday November 18 at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Starkville, followed by Memorial Eucharist at 3:00 p.m.
