ALBERT WALKER SINGLETARY
Passed away on March 25, 2012 in Arlington, Virginia. He was born on September 22, 1927 in Oberlin, Louisiana and spent his high school years in Baton Rouge. He graduated from the U.S. Military Academy in 1949 and his subsequent military career as an Army officer spanned thirty years. His service included postings in Germany and Vietnam and in 1964 he was awarded the Bronze Star. His further formal education included receiving an MBA (LSU) and a Master of Public Affairs (Shippensburg University).
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary Jane, of Arlington, and their three children, Joanne Mann of Tipton, Indiana, Nancy Singletary (Michael Martin) of Alpharetta, Georgia and Andrew Singletary (Pia Peltola) of Washington D.C. He is also survived by five wonderful grandchildren MM1 John (Kalyn) Mann of St. Mary's, Georgia, Lt. David (Tracy) Mann, of Ft. Lewis, Washington, Jaana Martin of St. John, USVI, Katja Martin of Alpharetta and Nirmal Singletary of Washington, DC and by three great-grandsons, Peyton, Jacob and Jaxen Mann of St. Mary's. He was loved and cherished as an attentive, playful father and grandfather. He will be missed by his two brothers and his sister, Ernest Singletary of Dallas, Texas, Charles Benjamin Singletary of Birmingham, Alabama and Betty Jo Singletary of Caracas, Venezuela, and their families.
He was an active, long time member of the Mount Olivet United Methodist Church. Funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the Ft. Myer Old Post Chapel, Ft. Myer, Virginia with interment to follow at Arlington National Cemetery.
