Dr. A. L. Peters, Brother of Local Residents Dies
Dr. Alcee L. Peters, Sr., of 4310 Bon Air Drive, Monroe, a physician for 50
years, died of a heart attack, August 1. He was 80.
Last rites were conducted in Monroe with burial at Riverview Cemetery.
A graduate of the University of Tennessee, Dr. Peters began practicing
medicine in 1912. He had served as president of the Monroe Kiwanis Club and
the Ouachita Parish Medical Society.
In 1962 he was awarded a 50 year Gold Certificate by the University of
Tennessee. The Louisiana Medical Society honored him for 50 years of
continued practice in medicine the same year.
Dr. Peters was a member of the Southern Medical Association, Ouachita Parish
Medical Association, and the College Place Baptist Church.
He was born at Winnfield and was married to the former Miss Alma Curry.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. A. L. Peters, Sr., of Monroe; one son, Col.
A. L. Peters, Jr., of Fort Polk; one daughter, Mrs. Credille Calhoun of Largo,
Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. E. J. Dunn of Baton Rouge, Mrs. D. F. Shell of
Winnfield, and Mrs. A. A. Hammonds of Ruston; three brothers, Dennis Peters of
Pineville, Luther Peters of Winnfield, and Wayne Peters of Stephens, Ark.; and
four grandchildren.
