CANTON -- Funeral services for Alfred W. Hardy, Sr., 72, of 326 E. Center St., Canton, were held Saturday from the chapel of Breeland Funeral Home, Canton. Interment in the Canton Cemetery.
Hardy died Thursday night at Madison General Hospital. He was a native of Madison County and had lived in Canton for 36 years. He was a prominent Madison County farmer, cattleman and landowner, has served as deputy sheriff for seven years, and as sheriff for two terms. He was past president of the Madison County Co-op Gin Assn., past president of the Federal Land Bank Assn. of Canton and Jackson, and past director of the Mississippi Livestock Assn. He served on the board of directors of the Bank of Flora and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Canton.
Survivors include: two sons, Alfred W. Hardy, Jr. and Michael W. Hardy, both of Canton; a daughter, Mrs. Russell A. Weathersby, Fort Benning, Ga.; four brothers, Clifton L. Hardy and Thomas Hardy, both of Flora, Joe B. Hardy, Canton, and Henry Hardy, Jackson; four sisters, Mrs. O. E. Rayburn, Canton, Mrs. Alton Clingan, Ridgeland, Mrs. Dorothy Oswalt and Mrs. Henry Lee Mason, both of Jackson; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
