Algie M. Whitman

Algie M. Whitman, 78, of Rt. 2, Shreveport, died Sunday in Schumpert Medical Center after a long illness.

Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Wellman Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Horace Hampton, pastor of Southern Hills Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.

Mr. Whitman was born in Choudrant but had lived in Shreveport 59 years. He was an independent garage operator and a member of Long Straw Baptist Church. He was past president of the Tri-State Singing Convention.

Survivors include his wife, Viola M. Whitman of Shreveport; two daughters, Mrs. J. S. Collins of Jefferson, Texas, and Mrs. L. S. Cage of Little Rock, Ark.; three brothers, J. D. Whitman of Long Straw, Texas, R. P. Whitman of Ruston and Idus Whitman of West Monroe; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Leo Cage, Chris Cage, Boby Deaton, W. M. Roper, Don G. Carpenter and Jack Lucky.
