Alice Elizabeth Dunn LeJeune

A Mass Christian Burial for Alice Elizabeth Dunn LeJeune will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at St. Rita Catholic Church with Rev. Craig Scott officiating. Interment will follow in Alexandria Memorial Gardens under the direction of John Kramer & Son.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Alice, age 84 of Alexandria, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 in Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital. Alice was a devoted wife, loving mother, inspirational teacher, and a friend to all.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Layne LeJeune; by her parents, Percy Marion Dunn and Helen Geneva Slocum Dunn; and by her sister, Betty Ruth Dunn Turner.

She is survived by her daughter Alice Kristine LeJeune of Alexandria, LA; by her son Thomas Kirk LeJeune and his wife, Anna of High Point, NC; by her son Mathew Kelly LeJeune and his wife Trixy, of Ball, LA; and by her grandchildren Andrew LeJeune and his wife Elizabeth, Zachary LeJeune and his wife Bonnye, Jacob LeJeune and his wife Yeong, Seth LeJeune, and Caleb LeJeune. She is also survived by two brothers, Charles Samuel Dunn of Sulphur, KY and William Percy Dunn of Haughton, LA.

Alice earned a Bachelor's degree in General Studies from Louisiana College and earned a Master's degree in Education with a Reading Specialist Endorsement from Northwestern State University. She taught elementary school for thirty-six years and touched the lives of countless students. She was recognized as a Rapides Parish Teacher of the Year. After she retired, she continued to volunteer at many schools in the parish and continued to inspire students. She was a 4-H volunteer and was inducted into the 4-H Hall of Fame for her work with numerous 4-H groups in the Alexandria-Pineville Area. She was a proud member of the Loyalty Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served as an officer at the local and state level. Through the DAR, she organized Junior American Citizens groups at the elementary schools where she volunteered. She was her family's genealogist and encouraged many people to research their own families. Alice will be sadly missed by family, friends, and former students.
