MRS. ALICE WHITTINGTON

COLUMBIA, Feb. 25. -- Mrs. Alice Whittington, 75 years old, died at her home from the effects of a stroke of paralysis. Her father, John A. Ferrand, was sheriff of Caldwell parish during reconstruction days.

Funeral services were held at Mt. Pleasant church Sunday morning at 10 o'clock and interment was in Mt. Pleasant cemetery at 12 o'clock.

She was a sister of W. G. Ferrand, a merchant of Columbia; J. H. Ferrand, a farmer of Bethel; Mrs. Louise Nethery of Grayson and Mrs. Mollie Brown of Kelly; all of whom survive her; she is also survived by four sons, David Whittington, Joseph Whittington, Blanks Whittington and Lloyd Whittington.

David Whittington, her husband, died several years ago.

Mrs. Whittington was a faithful member of the Baptist church, her membership being in Mt. Pleasant Baptist church, which is the second oldest Baptist church in Caldwell parish, and is located within a mile of where Mrs. Whittington was born.

OBITUARY

Mrs. Alice Whittington, age 74, years, died at her home in ward 4 on February 23, 1929.

Mrs. Whittington was born Oct. 8, 1854, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Ferrand.

She was married to D. J. Whittington on April 15th, 1877. To this union were born twelve children, ten of whom survive. They are Mrs. Eula Pauley, Mrs. Alice Nelson, Misses Elma, Maggie and Emma Whittington, and W. B., J. H., J. C., D. T., and C. F. Whittington; she was also survived by the following brothers and sisters: W. G. Ferrand of Columbia, J. H. Ferrand, Mrs. W. P. Nethery, Mrs. S. E. Brown and Mrs. R. F. Dawes, of Clarks, Mrs. Hardie Howell of Alexandria, and Mrs. I. P. Wimer of Fresno, Cal. She leaves a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her departure.

Funeral services were conducted at the Mt. Pleasant church, Feb. 23 at 11 o'clock by the Rev. Chapman of Banks Springs. Interment was made in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
