Rites Held Today At Wisner For Drowning Victim

WISNER (Special) -- Funeral services for Mrs. Alice L. Stephens, 61, of Wisner, were held at 2 p.m. today at South Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold Dunn officiating, assisted by the Rev. O. C. Clark.

Burial was in South Central Cemetery under direction of First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro.

Mrs. Stephens drowned Monday morning in a fish pond near her home. Franklin Parish Sheriff A. J. Stevens ruled the drowning as suicide.

He said Mrs. Stephens apparently left a note in the house and then waded out into the pond and drowned.

Survivors include her husband, Earl E. Stephens of Wisner; one daughter, Mrs. Carl R. McBeth of Monroe; four brothers, W. Thomas Flowers of Winnsboro, James E. Flowers of Houston, Tex., John W. Flowers of Wisner and S. S. Flowers of Beaumont, Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. W. E. Talley of Vidalia and Mrs. James Arnold of Centranell, Ala.; and two grandchildren.
