MRS. ALICE DUNN ODOM
OAKDALE, La., Nov. 3. -- (Special) -- Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Dunn Odom, 79, pioneer citizen of Oakdale, was held at the First Baptist Church Sunday afternoon with Rev. C. N. Kimberling, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Odom died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Joe Rhoner [sic Rohner], Saturday night at 11:30, after an illness of several months.
Mrs. Odom was a member of the family of which Oakdale was first named Dunnville before the townsite was re-named Oakdale. She married the late James Odom and to this union twelve children were born, five of whom survive. Mr. and Mrs. Odom made their home about three miles south of Oakdale, and were engaged in farming.
Mrs. Odom was a member of the First Baptist Church of this city and took an interest in civic affairs until the last few years. On her birthday each year, January 18, large family reunions were held and kinspeople from all over Louisiana and parts of Texas joined to celebrate.
Surviving Mrs. Odom are four daughters, Mrs. Joe Rhoner, Mrs. Ob Garland, Mrs. Tommy Lewis, of Oakdale, and Mrs. Tom Hughes of Pitkin and one son, Richard Odom of Oakdale; 23 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.
Interment was made at the Oakdale cemetery.
