ALICE SPRADLEY LAGRONE
1916-1995

Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Spradley LaGrone, 79, of the Deadwood Community were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, 1995 at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel in Carthage. The Rev. Steve Vaughn officiated. Interment followed in Deadwood Cemetery. Mrs. LaGrone died Thursday morning, Feb. 16 at Panola General Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Born on Feb. 13, 1916 in the LaTex (Jaybird) Community of Panola County, she was the daughter of William Horace and Edna Farmer Spradley. Mrs. LaGrone attended the Reeves and Carthage schools, and was a longtime member of the New Prospect Baptist Church. She was an active member of the New Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, and past choir director for both churches. Mrs. LaGrone was also a member of the Shiloh Community Quilting Club. On October 23, 1936 she married she married Harvard Truitt LaGrone in Bethany, Texas. Mrs. LaGrone was preceded in death by her husband, who died on August 26, 1987; a son, Kenneth LaGrone, who died in 1967; and a brother, Conway Spradley, who died in 1983.

Mrs. LaGrone is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Lynn and Dorothy LaGrone, and Garth and Martha LaGrone, all of Deadwood; one sister, Mrs. Sybil Barnett of Deadwood; five grandchildren, Marlene LaGrone, Kevin LaGrone, Lynnette LaGrone, Renee Rambin and Angie Conaster; five great-grandchildren, Tiffany Conaster, Derrick Conaster, Brandon Rambin, Jody LaGrone and Jesseca LaGrone.

Honorary pallbearers were Mrs. LaGrone's grandsons and great-grandsons.
