Allie Ardella Cawley
August 9, 1915 -- September 5, 2007

Allie Ardella Cawley, affectionately known as Dell to her many friends and loved ones, passed away September 5, 2007 in Waco. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 8 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with the family is from 6:00 -- 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 7 at the Funeral Home Chapel

Dell was born August 9, 1915 in Steep Hollow, Texas, a Brazos County community about 6 miles from Bryan, Texas. She was the fifth of six children born to Tolbert Eugene Bullock and Carrie Elizabeth Powers Bullock. She graduated from Bryan High School in 1934 and attended 4-C College to prepare for secretarial work. In 1936, however, she married Alonzo P. Cawley and became a very successful homemaker. She resided in Waco more than 65 years.

Dell was an excellent housewife and mother. She raised three sons, participating in their many activities and encouraging all to obtain college degrees. She was a Christian and long time member of North Waco Baptist Church and was quite active teaching young people and adults as well as serving in the Women's Missionary Union. Her civic and church activities were numerous.

During World War II, when her husband was serving in the Pacific, Dell supported her family by working midnight shifts in a defense plant near McGregor. Her devotion to her husband and sons was unwavering; her friends and loved ones will never forget this attribute.

Dell was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo P. Cawley, and all of her siblings. She is survived by sons, Richard Cawley of Tyler; Donald Cawley of Belton; and James Cawley of Austin; as well as six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 10 nieces and nephews. All came to know and love her during the various stages of her 92 years.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. The family invites you to leave a memory of message in our “Memorial Guestbook” at www.wilkirsonhatchbailey.com.
