Services for Allie Powell Ostteen, age 92 of Kelly will be held at 2:00p.m., Saturday, January 20, 2007 from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with Rev. Dr. Ronald Lee Ostteen, Sr, Rev. Dr. Ronald Lee Ostteen, Jr. and Rev. Dr. Steven H. Ostteen officiating. Interment will follow in the Old Bethel Cemetery west of Clarks.
Mrs. Ostteen was born in Columbia on October 9, 1914 to the union of Andrew Jackson and Tennie Varnell Powell and died Thursday, January 18, 2007 at the Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Columbia. She was a member of the First Church of God in Columbia and a lifetime resident of Caldwell Parish. Throughout her productive life, her most important role was that of a mother and wife. She also held positions at Caldwell Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide and dietary manager. She and her husband operated the Continental Trailways bus station during the 60's and 70's. Mrs. Ostteen was a 1934 graduate of Columbia High School. While she never attended an institute of higher education, she was instrumental in fostering a love of learning in her children. All three of her children obtained college educations. She touched many lives through her kindness and generosity. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, family members and many friends in the community.
Survivors include her sons: Rev. Dr. Ronald Lee Ostteen, Sr. and his wife: Jean of Colt, AR, Walter ``Dub'' Ostteen and his wife: Beth of Baton Rouge, LA, her daughter: Joyce Ostteen Hines and her husband: Willie of Kelly, her grand children: Rev. Dr. Lee Ostteen and his wife: Roberta of Denham Springs, Rev. Dr. Steve Ostteen and his wife: Connie of El Reno, OK, Rev. Jean Paul Ostteen and his wife: Elizabeth of Tuscaloosa, AL, Jack Ostteen of Evergreen, CO, and W.L. Hines and his wife: Michele of West Monroe, Hope Curtis and her husband: Rev. Dr. Vance Curtis of Lubbock, TX, Morgan Cole and her husband: Rob of Ocala, FL and Theresa Ellerbe and her husband: Dan of Columbia, seventeen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and her brothers-in-law: V.H. Ostteen and his wife: Catherine of Columbia and J.V. Ostteen and his wife: Jeannie of Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Walter Lee Ostteen, Jr., her granddaughter: Sandra Ostteen McKinney, and her siblings: Ruby Russell, Trudie Beck, Ludie Starnes, Shirley Tillman Williams, Alfred Powell and her twin brother: Alvin Powell.
Visitation will be Friday from 5:00PM until 8:00PM. and Saturday from 9:00AM until time of services at Riser Funeral Home, 7131 Hwy 165, Columbia, LA.
