Alton A. Holmes
Nov. 21, 1912 - Mar. 29, 2008

Funeral services for Alton A. Holmes, age 95, of Epps, La will be held at 2:00PM, March 31, 2008 at the chapel of Cox Funeral Home in Delhi, La. Rev. Wesley Pittman and Rev. Pat Loftin will be officiating. Interment will follow at Epps Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00PM - 9:00PM.

Mr. Holmes was born in Winnfield, La on November 21, 1912 and went to be with his Lord on March 29, 2008.

He was a long time resident of Epps, a pillar of the Little Creek Community and was a member and deacon of the Little Creek Baptist Church. Recently, due to illness he was residing at the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home in Monroe and passed away at St Francis North Hospital.

Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by loving wife of 55 years, Gladys Rai Barr Holmes, parents, Joseph Walter and Rosie Volentine Holmes and two sisters, Audie McPherson and Lanell Holmes.

Mr. Holmes is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Joy Holmes of Monroe, La, brothers, Ted R. Holmes and wife Helen of Monroe, La, and James R. ``Jimmy'' Holmes and wife Karen of West Monroe, La, and many nieces, and nephews, along with a host of other relatives, friends, and neighbors, who all loved and respected him.

Mr. Holmes was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army Air Corps as a Tech. Sgt. He was a successful cattleman and farmer and held the distinction of owning and operating a school bus for West Carroll Parish and the State of Louisiana for 45 years, longer than any other individual.

``A.A.'' was the epitome of what a Christian man should be. Hardworking, dedicated, caring and giving to others, a devoted husband and a wonderful father, he touched all who knew him and heaven is brighter this day for his presence.

Pallbearers will be Larry Copes, Vernon Eugene Black Jr., James Barkman, Steve Kammerman, Keith Dollar and Roger Green.

Honorary pallbearers include Willie Holley, Donnie Holley, Charles McPherson, Dennis McPherson, Keith Holmes and Ted R. Holmes Jr., Devon Knight and Dinky Williamson.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Northeast Louisiana War Veterans staff and the medical staff of the fifth floor of St Francis North Hospital.Also to the many people these past several years who have shown their unwavering kindness, love, and support. Your unselfish acts will not be forgotten. May God bless you all.
