Funeral services for Alvin A. Garvan, 83, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, September 24, 2012, at Victory Baptist Church, Monroe, LA, with Rev. Bucky Curry and Rev. John Mark Little officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home.
Mr. Garvan was born on November 22, 1928 in Baskin, LA, and entered into his Savior's Arms on September 21, 2012, at St. Francis Medical Center. Alvin served in the US Army during the Korean War. He and his wife Bobbye were owners of Bobbye's Grocery on Winnsboro Road, Monroe, LA, for 27 years. After retiring from the grocery business, Alvin worked for Evans Oil Company for 20 years. He was a faithful member of Harmony Baptist Church in Delhi, LA. He loved to work in his garden and share stories with his family and friends.
Mr. Garvan was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Bonnie McCarty Garvan; brothers, Andrew, Alfred, and Archie Lee Garvan; and sister, Addie Mae Richardson.
Survivors include wife of 62 years, Bobbye Duchense Garvan; son, Mike Garvan and wife Phyllis; grand-daughter, Jenifer Armstrong and husband Mark; grandson, Scotty Garvan; and three great-grandchildren, Caleb and Colby Armstrong and Elizabeth Garvan.
Pallbearers will be Larry Garvin, Randall Garvin, Ronnie Garvin, Bennie Evans, Jr., Dale Duchesne and Raymond Helams. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Balsamo, K.J. Garvin, Bobby Underwood and Carl Garvin.
Visitation will be at Victory Baptist Church from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Sunday and from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Monday.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to Mrs. Jo Evans, Alvin's special sister-n-law, Bennie Evans, Jr. and Suzonne Underwood, for all their love and support.
