Alvin M. Phillips
Alvin M. Phillips Sr., 71, of 2523 Douglas St. in Bossier City died Sunday about 1:30 a.m. at Schumpert Medical Center after a brief illness.
The Opelousas native moved to the Shreveport-Bossier area in 1926. He was owner of Whitfield-Phillips Furniture Co. He was a past potentate of El Karubah Shrine, a member of the Broadmoor Masonic Lodge, the Retail Furniture Association of Shreveport and the Waller Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Estelle T. Phillips; two sons, Alvin M. Phillips Jr. of Baton Rouge and Jimmy Phillips of Shreveport; one brother, Earl Phillips of Shreveport; two sisters, Mary Morrow of Shreveport and Emma Brown of Opelousas.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. today in Rose-Neath Funeral Home's Marshall Street Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. M. L. Faler. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery with Masonic graveside services.
Pallbearers will be J. Clifton Hayes, W. J. Howard, N. H. McClamroch, Kenneth R. Barns, B. B. Rhodes, William Bert Simmons and Carlton Madden.
