Apparent suicide

WINNFIELD -- Winn Parish authorities are investigating an apparent suicide at a Winnfield business around noon Tuesday, Sheriff James E. “Buddy” Jordan said.

Alvin Roy Fontenot, 60, of Winnfield, apparently shot himself in the chest with a shotgun. He was pronounced dead at approximately 1:30 p.m. by Winn Parish Coroner Dr. R.L. WIlliams. Fontenot was owner and operator of Allen Radio and Television Service.

Williams said Fontenot left a sign on the door saying essentially “Out forever!” The coroner said a co-worker described Fontenot as being depressed recently.

According to investigators, Fontenot's body was discovered by an employee when the employee returned to work after lunch. THe employee then notified the Sheriff's Office.

The investigation was handled by Winnfield city police, sheriff's deputies and the coroner's office.
