Alvis Adron Lester, 85, of Oak Grove, LA was born August 8, 1918 in Oak Grove and died September 23, 2003 at West Carroll Memorial Hospital, Oak Grove, LA.

He was preceded in death by his wife Grace Anne O'Connell Lester, whom he married February 18, 1948 in Los Angeles, CA father, Edd Horace Lester and mother, Myra Gertrude Hatten Lester.

Survivors include his sons, Edd Lester of West Monroe, LA and James ``Jim'' Lester of West Monroe nephews, David Lester of West Monroe, LA and Lavelle Adams of Laughlin, NV nieces, Shirley Aguirre of Norwalk, CA and Rita Casias of Northridge, CA and a host of friends and relatives.

Pallbearers will be John Mercer, Jimmy Melton, Fred Bolding, Roger Bolding, Clay Robertson and Kenny Nix.

Mr. Lester was a retired automotive mechanic. In 1968, he and Charles Holley opened Holley & Lester Auto Repair in Oak Grove. Following Mr. Holley's retirement, he opened Lester's Automatic Transmission Service and operated it until his retirement in 1989. Mr. Lester was a member of First Baptist Church in Oak Grove, where he served as a deacon. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the 97th Bomb Group in the USAAF. He was a member and Past Commander of the Thomas-Tyson Post #3977 of the VFW.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Oak Grove, LA with Dr. Jeff Jinks and Rev. Herbert Whitten officiating. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Oak Grove, LA.
