minor heirs of Elizabeth

To the Honorable the Judge of the
Eleventh Judicial District of the State of Louisiana
holding sessions in and for the parish of
Catahoula.

         The petition of Amos McCarty
a resident of the parish of Catahoula
in the state of Louisiana with due
respect represents this his wife Elizabeth
Walker alias Elizabeth McCarty died
in the state of Mississippi in
about the year 1837 leaving the following
children to wit Serena McCarty, Allen
McCarty, Martha McCarty, Willis
McCarty, Marina McCarty, Charity
Ann McCarty, Elizabeth McCarty,
& Sarah Jane McCarty all children
of the said deceased and this
petitioner. Petitioner states that
all the said children are now
of the full age of majority or
have been emancipated by marriage
except two to wit Elizabeth and
Sarah Jane McCarty who are minors
over the age of puberty -- Petitioner
avows that he moved to this state
to his present residence in the year
1839 and brought with him his said
children -- He also avows that he
has never been appointed or
confirmed as tutor to his said chil-
dren and that he is the natural
tutor of his said minor children.
He avows that his interests of
said minors require that he
should be appointed to and confirmed
in the tutorship of the aforesaid
minors Elizabeth and Sarah
Jane McCarty -- wherefore he prays
that your honor confirm him
as natural tutor to said minors
that said appointment be duly
made according to law and
he prays personal relief

         Whereas Amos McCarty has filed
in the office of the clerk of the 11th Judicial
District Court his petition praying to
be appointed to and confirmed in the
tutorship of his minor children Elizabeth
McCarty and Sarah Jane McCarty
now therefore it is hereby ordained that
the petitioner's prayers be granted and
that he be duly appointed & confirmed as tutor to
said minors as required by him upon
taking the oath required by law and
it is further ordained that John
Dampier be appointed under
tutor to said minors and be author-
ised to act as such upon taking
the oath prescribed by law and
it is further ordained that letters
of tutorship issue to said Amos
McCarty and letters for under
tutorship issue to said John Dampier
according to Law -- Done and Signed at
Chambers this 26th July A.D. 1847.
