(December 3, 1927 - September 16, 2011)

Amy Joyce Adams, 83, of DeRidder, La passed away on Friday, September 16, 2011, at DeRidder Retirement and Rehabiliation Center.

Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011, 4:30 PM at Beauregard Cemetery in DeRidder, LA, under the direction of Labby Memorial Funeral Home of DeRidder. Minister officiating will be Rev. Jerome Hayes.

Visitation will begin on Saturday at Labby Memorial Funeral Home from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, before the service.

Amy, the youngest of three children, was born December 3, 1927, to Talmage and Bertha Cooley in DeRidder, LA. Her first employment was working as a sales clerk at Joubans in downtown DeRidder, where she met her husband of 60 years, James O. Adams, while selling him a suit for his father. Amy was a loving and devoted wife and mother, who lived her life caring for her family and assisting and supporting those she loved. Amy was a constant source of love and support as her husband, James O. Adams, attended vocational school to become a watch maker and jeweler and established their business, Adams Jewelry, in DeRidder. She was a helpmate to James in all things, whether in their business keeping books and waiting on customers or tending their garden and livestock. Since Adams Jewelry was next to their home, Amy and James were able to be together almost constantly. James once said lovingly of his wife, we are “always together, together always”, and requested that one day those words be placed on their memorial. Amy also devoted her life to her two daughters, Mary and Susan. She was a loving and supportive mother who encouraged her children to reach their full ptential and she devoted her life to caring for her daughter, Susan, who was born mentally retarted [sic retarded]. She felt blessed that God had entrusted her to care for Susan and she was one of the many joys in her life.

Amy is survived by two daughters, Susan Adams and Mary Maddox; son-in-law, Allen Maddox of DeRidder and one sister, Irene Ryland of DeRidder.

Amy is preceded in death by her hsuband, James O. Adams; her parents, Talmage and Bertha Cooley and her brother, Volney Cooley.
