Trainmaster Bonded In Fatal Shooting

SPOFFORD, May 26. -- R. R. McDuff, Southern Pacific trainmaster here, was free on bond of $2500 today following the fatal shooting last night of Truman Rolen, 35, Del Rio truck driver, at the Spofford Southern Pacific section station. Rolen was shot in the abdomen and died 10 minutes later without making a statement.

Examining hearing is set for Thursday afternoon.

Funeral services for Rolen were to be held Tuesday afternoon.

MAN SHOT TO DEATH IN YARD AT SPOFFORD

DEL RIO, Tex., May 26 -- Truman Rolen was shot to death with a 30-30 rifle last night in the yard of the trainmaster's residence at Spofford.

R. R. McDuff, middle-aged Southern Pacific trainmaster at the little Southwest Texas station, was placed under $2500 bond immediately after the shooting.

Officers said Rolen, about 35, died without making any statement. He was a truck driver for a Del Rio baker, and disappeared from his route about 3 p.m. yesterday afternoon. The truck later was found parked in the rear of a section house.

Rolen was unmarried. McDuff has a wife and two small children.

TRAINMASTER FREED UNDER $5200 [sic $2500] BOND

DEL RIO, May 27 (UP). -- R. R. McDuff, middle-aged trainmaster at Spofford, was free under $2500 bond today following the shooting this Monday of Truman Rolen, 35, ex-service man and bakery truck driver.

Rolen was shot through the abdomen with a large bore rifle in the yard of McDuff's home in Spofford. He died 10 minutes later without making a statement.
