Say Laurel Woman Found Dead Had Threatened Suicide

LAUREL, Miss. (UP) -- Jones County Sheriff Fred Walters said today a 46-year-old woman killed by a shotgun in the front yard of her home near here had reportedly threatened to kill herself a few hours before her death.

He said an investigation of the shooting is underway and he plans fingerprint tests on a shotgun found next to the body of Mrs. Annie Mae Maxey. The woman, barefoot, was found dead Saturday night with a wound in her chest.

The husband, Virgil Maxey, told the sheriff his wife left during supper and said she was going to visit their son, Clint, who lived in a trailer in their front yard.

Maxey said he heard a shot and found his wife dead, halfway between their house and the trailer.
