Annie Ruth Grim
Annie Ruth Grim, of Laurel, passed peacefully away at home on Saturday, January 24, 2009, surrounded by her daughters Georgianna Grim of Columbia, South Carolina, Rebecca Grim of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Deborah Grim Longino of New York, New York.
Mrs. Grim was a beloved daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Willis Walker Sr. of Hattiesburg; sister to Dr. Willis Walker Jr. of Hattiesburg, and Mrs. William J. Decell of Jackson. She was also mother to the late Joe Willis Grim of Laurel.
Mrs. Grim graduated Millsaps College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and English. She was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority.
Her many years of civic contributions to Laurel include: 20 years on the Red Cross Board; 18 years on the Kidney Foundation Board; 17 years on the Salvation Army Board; Theta Kappa Omega National Fraternity Mother; life member and past president of the Junior Auxiliary; member and president multiple times of the Park Place Garden Club; president of the Council of Garden Clubs of Laurel and Jones County, Mississippi. She was appointed to the State and National Federation of Republican Women and attended National Conventions as a delegate in the 1960s and 1970s. She spear-headed the campaign for the beautification of downtown Laurel. She was a member of the Morning Church Circle of the First United Methodist Church of Laurel for many years.
Visitation will be held at Memory Chapel on Thursday, January 29th, beginning at noon with a celebration service to follow in the chapel at 2 p.m. She will rest at Lake Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to a fund in her name at the First United Methodist Church of Laurel.
She will be immeasurably missed.
Memory Chapel is in charge of services.
