Rites Held For Former Owner Of Area Paper
JONESBORO (Special) -- Last rites were conducted at 4 p.m. Monday for A. H. Colvin Sr., 72, owner and co-owner of the weekly newspaper, Jackson Independent, for more than 50 years, who died Sunday.
The Reverends David Mason and Lloyd Williams officiated at services in the First Baptist Church.
Mr. Colvin had retired from newspaper work about four years ago.
Before coming to Jonesboro, where he spent most of his adult life, he had lived in Lincoln Parish.
Following services interment was in the Jonesboro Cemetery under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. A. H. Colvin, Jonesboro; two daughters, Mrs. Francis E. Johnstone, Athens, Ga.; and Mrs. James E. Bryan, Wiggins, Miss.; three sons, T. L., Lester, and Ansley Colvin Jr., all of Jonesboro; five sisters, Mrs. C. N. Cook, Texarkana, Tex.; Mrs. F. M. Palmer, Shreveport; Mrs. Garland Fuller and Mrs. J. G. Bowden, both of Houston, Tex.; and Mrs. Ella Terrell, Harlengen Tex.; and 10 grandchildren.
Jack Emmons, Marbury Smelley, P. H. Key, Bland Fain, Willard Kilpatrick, and E. L. Mobley, served as pallbearers.
