Archie Thigpen

Services for Archie Thigpen will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at the chapel of Hixson Brothers, Pineville with Reverend Leland Briggs officiating. A Masonic Service will be included in the service. Burial will be at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Bentley under the direction of Hixson Brothers, Pineville.

Archie Thigpen of Bentley, Louisiana was born July 10, 1918 and passed away, Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Rapides Regional Medical Center.

He was a Mason since 1947 and a 32nd Degree Scottish Mason since 1952. He spent two years working for CC Camp while earning his surveying diploma from the department of California. He received numerous safety awards and certificates from several jobs. From 1952 to 1954 he surveyed layout and oversaw construction of Savannah River Plant, a hydrogen bomb plant, in South Carolina. This was the second largest Government project. In 1954 he began working pipeline engineering. In 1960, Archie worked on the deepest pipeline river crossing ever installed. It was 110 feet deep and ran across the Mississippi River in Butte, Louisiana. He worked about 20 years surveying on every major river crossing the United States and crossing overseas, such as England, Holland, Mexico, Panama, the North Sea and the Alaskan Pipeline from Valdez to Copper Center Alaska which was the third largest government project.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 68 years, Lillie Thigpen; daughter, Frances Price & husband Tommy of Bentley; son, Neal Thigpen of Bentley; brother, Belvin Thigpen of Sikes; grandchildren, Jeff Price & wife Angela of Bentley, Karen Jamison & husband Darrell of Bentley; Jennifer Warren & husband Gary Lynn of Alexandria, Steven Thigpen & wife Angela of Alexandria, Bethany Thigpen of Bentley & fiance Jerrell Poole of Pollock; great grandchildren, Allison, Jaquelyn, Jared Price, Mallary Jamison, Magen, Cody, Ashlyn Warren, Zoey McKay and Makayla Rowell.

Pallbearers will be Steven Thigpen, Jerrell Poole, Darrell Jamison, Gary Lynn Warren, Cody Warren, Jeff Price, and Osbin Walters.
