Archie E. Welles

HOSFORD -- Archie E. Welles, 80, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, in Tallahassee. The service will be at 11 a.m. EDT Tuesday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bristol, with burial at Sanders Cemetery in Hosford. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. EDT today at McClellan Funeral Home (850-643-3636) in Bristol.

He was a native of Winsted, Conn., and moved from Oldsmar to Liberty County in 1974. He was a retired machinist and a field sergeant in the U.S. Army. He served during World War II in North Africa and Sicily, where he was wounded in battle. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was the former president of the Oldsmar Lions Club. He was a member of the Hosford ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Survivors include three sons, Archie E. Welles Jr. (and wife Carol) of Cheshire, Conn., Richard C. Welles (and wife Cynthia) of Marietta, Ga., and Roger Welles (and wife Gretchen) of Hosford; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Beatrice Taunton Welles.
