Ardis Glendon Boles
Ardis (Art) Boles, 88, of Lake of the Woods, passed away peacefully at his home, Thursday, May 28, 2015.
Art was born November 1, 1926 in Sikes, Louisiana. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Joy Boles; his daughter, Brenda Anderson and her husband, Jon, also of Lake of the Woods; his two grandsons, Glendon Boyd Fleming of Anchorage, Alaska, and Benjamin Bryan Fleming of Hampton, VA; 4 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jacob, and Isaac Fleming of Anchorage, and Kaylan Fleming of Hampton; his sister, Avis Lewing of Many. LA; Patti Daye Woods of Pineville, LA; 2 nephews, 1 niece, 3 grand nephews and several great-grand nieces and nephews, all of Many, LA.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charley and Evelyn Boles of Winnfield, LA, and his brothers, Victor and Henry Lee Boles.
Art was a standout basketball player at Sikes High School before enlisting in the Army in 1946. Following his service in the military he began his retail career with Edison Brothers Shoes where he rose through the management ranks until his retirement in 1985. In retirement he loved golfing, fishing, and traveling with his wife, Joy, to casinos across the country. He enjoyed teaching his grandsons to play pool and in recent years getting to know his great grandchildren.
Funloving, friendly, and competitive, Art lived a full and happy life though he endured many serious health issues. Everywhere he lived he made many friends and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at Lake of the Woods Church at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 8, followed by a luncheon reception in Friendship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lake of the Woods Fire and Rescue, Locust Grove, VA, 22508.
The family thanks his caregivers, Tracy, Cathleen, and Michelle of Flying Angels, and the Mary Washington Hospice group for the loving care they provided.
