IN MEMORY OF MRS. OWEN BARFIELD

It is with a sad heart that I try to write a few lines in memory of Aunt Mendie Barfield who died on May 21, 1930 at the age of 84 years and 3 months. Aunt Mendie was a life long resident of this county. In early life she was united in marriage to Mr. Owen Barfield. Before her marriage she was Miss Mendie Taunton. She leaves to mourn her passing one brother, Mr. B. M. C. Taunton; two sons and three daughters as follows: Mrs. Fred Bone, Mrs. Maude Barfield, Mr. Jack Barfield and Mr. Billie Barfield of this county and Mrs. Ben Childs, of Ideal. Besides she is survived by many grand-children, nieces and nephews. She gave her heart to God and united with the Primitive Baptist church several years ago and lived a consecrated Christian life.

Farewell Aunt Mendie, thou has left us
And our loss we deeply feel,
But 'tis God who hath bereft us
He can all our sorrows heal.
Tis hard to break the tender cord
When love hath bound the heart,
Tis hard, so hard to speak the words
    We must forever part.
Dearest Auntie we have laid thee,
    In the peaceful grave's embrace
But thy memory will be cherished
Till we see thy heavenly face.
We miss thy kind and willing hand
    Thy fond and earnest care,
Our home is dark without thee,
    We miss thee everywhere.
Far beyond this world of changes
Far beyond this world of care,
We shall find our darling Auntie,
    In our Father's mansion fair.

Her remains were laid to rest in Bethlehem cemetery Thursday, May 22nd, funeral services conducted by Mr. John Childs attended by a large gathering of sorrowing relatives and friends.

By her loving niece,
Etta Earl Taunton.
