A. L. Sikes, Widely Known Salesman, Died Here Nov. 8

Arnold L. Sikes, 56, widely known local automobile salesman, died at his home in Winnfield Thursday night, November 8, from a heart attack. He had been in ill health a number of years.

Mr. Sikes was a life long resident of Winn Parish and a member of one of the oldest pioneer families of the parish. For 30 years he had been employed as a salesman for Winn Motors, Inc. He had a wide acquaintance in automobile circles throughout, La.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Bertha Sikes, Winnfield; three sons, A. L., Jr., Ruston, Ardis Ray and James, Monroe; two daughters, Miss Nellie Fay Sikes, Shreveport, and Mrs. Chloe Atkins, Edna, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

He also leaves his father, J. W. Sikes, Dodson; one brother, Grady Sikes, New Orleans; four sisters, Mrs. W. T. Adams, Mrs. Clyde Parker, and Mrs. Dave Simmons of Dodson, and Mrs. Thomas Chadwick, Shreveport.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. November 10, with Dr. W. L. Holcomb and the Rev. W. R. Gage officiating. Burial was in the Winnfield Cemetery under direction of Hixson Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were J. R. Madden, Jr., Johnny Waters, Machen Mayes, O. T. White, Howard Tarver, Harry Stevenson. Honorary pallbearers were J. C. Long, D. C. Warner, R. C. Byrnes, Harvey Rhymes, Joe Beck, Dr. J. T. Mosley, Dr. J. R. McElwee, E. C. Frazier, Homer Smith, Alvin Hahn, Houston Gates, John Emerson, Mont Breedlove, and Alton Martin.
