Arnott Lewis Jones, Jr.
Shreveport, LA -- Arnott Lewis “Al” Jones, Jr. passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2013. He was born on October 3, 1919 in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, the son of Arnott Lewis Jones, Sr. and Florence Perkins Jones. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 123 of Forty Fort, Pennsylvania and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1938. He graduated from Forty Fort High School in 1938, lettering in wrestling and tennis.
In 1940, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served as an Aviation Chief Radioman. He achieved the highest enlisted rank of Chief Petty Officer in four years. As a radioman, he participated in VR-7 flights for the Naval Air Transport Service, flying personnel and supplies from Miami to Montevideo and Rio de Janeiro. He also participated in flights in the South Pacific from Honolulu to Guam and from Oakland to Tokyo.
He married Edwina Dunn in 1948 in Monroe, Louisiana. They celebrated their 64th anniversary in 2012.
He graduated from Louisiana Polytechnic Institute, now Louisiana Tech University, in 1950 earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
During his professional career he worked as a district manager for Eggelhof Engineering for ten years. He then worked for Hudson Rush Company for fourteen years. He founded and served as president and principal shareholder of Halgo Engineering until his retirement in 1982. He belonged to a number of professional societies and was a past president of the Shreveport Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration Engineers, the Shreveport Chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Bayou Syndicate Investment Club. He has been a member of the Shreveport Rotary Club for 54 years.
An avid golfer, he was a member of the Shreveport Country Club for 28 years. He attended St. Paul Lutheran Church and served as president of the congregation for twelve years. He worked weekly with the Lutheran Braille Workshop making Bibles for the blind for 23 years.
He is preceded in death by his grandson, Gordon Lewis Jones. He is survived by his wife, Winnie, three children, Susan Denney and husband Michael of Shavertown, Pennsylvania, and twin sons, Kevin Jones of Rowlett, Texas and Keith Jones and wife Sandra of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. His grandchildren are Naomi S. Adams of Pocatello, Idaho, Christopher Jones and wife Kelley of Baton Rouge, Michelle Beauboeuf and husband David of Baton Rouge, Katie Goodlife and husband Gavin of Baton Rouge, Morgan Wicker and husband Nathan of Carrollton, Texas, Georgia Solorzano and husband David of Pflugerville, Texas, Zachary Denney of Denton, Texas, Benjamin Jones and wife Shelby of Allen, Texas, Holly Natale and husband Mark of Melissa, Texas and Chase Jones of Rowlett, Texas. Great-grandchildren include, Kean, Cazes, Finley and Virginia Jones of Baton Rouge, Catherine, Seth, Joseph, Juliet, Eli and Penelope Solorzano of Pflugerville, Texas, Martin, Vivian, Eliza and Miles Wicker of Carrollton, Texas, Stafford and Maxwell Jones and Kathleen Jane Beauboeuf of Baton Rouge, Conley and Emma Goodlife of Baton Rouge, Grayson and Scarlett Jones of Allen, Texas and Amelia and Knox Natale of Melissa, Texas.
He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, Jim Dunn of Graham, Texas and Bill Dunn of California, nieces Judy Sachs and Carol Dykstra and nephew Rhett Porter.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, from 11:00 a.m. until service time with services beginning at 12:00 noon at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 4175 Lakeshore Drive. Interment will follow [at] Forest Park Cemetery, St. Vincent Avenue.
