ARTHUR IRVIN TALTON JR.
April 3, 1925 - October 25, 2016

Funeral services for Arthur Irvin Talton, Jr. have been scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of Athens with Rev. Faulk Landrum and Rev. Jason Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park, Athens.

Mr. Talton died suddenly at home Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the age of 91.

Art, or “Red” as he was known in the Navy, was born in Winnfield, Louisana on April 3, 1925 to Arthur Irvin Talton, Sr. and Ama Elizabeth Gaar. He was the youngest of four children. Mr. Talton served in the United States Navy in World War II as a radioman. He proudly wore his honorable discharge pin (Ruptured Duck) as a symbol of his devotion to his country.

Mr. Talton retired from many years with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as an underwriter and spent many years after that woodworking in “Dad T's” shop. He was a nearly 60year member of the United Methodist Church in Athens. He served the church as Head Usher for many years and on various committees and was a lifetime member of the masonic Lodge in Athens. He was often at the church utilizing his woodworking skills making improvements and at home he created wooden trains and toys for children.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Reeves Talton.

Survivors are his daughters, Ardith Daily and son-in-law, Patrick; Dayna Abowd and son-in-law, Joe; Tamara Bullard and son-in-law, Scott; grandchildren, Shannon Daily, Christy and Patrick FitzGerald, and Marian, Paige and Brady Abowd.

Art firmly believed in his salvation through his Lord, our Savior, Jesus Christ and greeted every day as the “best day yet.” The example he provided to his daughter's , sons-in-laws, and grandchildren showed them that all life and family were to be loved, but that this world is only temporary while the afterlife is forever.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Daily, Joe Abowd, Scott Bullard, Patrick FitzGerald, Brady Abowd and Matt Flaherty.

Honorary pallbearers are Robert Barnett, Michael Swanson, Clyde Swanson, Jr. and Harry Morgan.

Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday evening from 4-6 P.M. at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home.
