Audrey Alverson Sloan

Audrey Alverson Sloan passed away Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2008, at the Trinity Memorial Hospital in Trinity, Texas. She was a resident at Huntsville Health Care in Huntsville, Texas, and had been a resident of Huntsville for several years. Audrey Thelma [sic Velma] Alverson was born Nov. 25, 1917, in Lovelady, Texas, to Wiley Franklin (Boog) and Nora Neil Laird [sic Nora Neal Lard] Alverson. She married James Sloan in 1954 in Houston. The couple moved to Kissimmee, Fla. where they were in the moving business. They moved back to Huntsville in 1976 to be near family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Sloan; parents, Boog and Nora Alverson; brothers, Harvey Alverson, Bennie Alverson, Marvin Alverson and wife, Jessie; sisters, Ella Mae Lenox and husband Jim, Eunice Moore and husband Hollis; niece, Doris Millican; nephews, Harvey Alverson Jr, Paul Alverson, Ray Alverson, Guy Gene Rains, Hollis Wayne Moore, Joe Frank Vondra and Lee Hester.

She is survived by stepson, Jim Sloan of Tennessee and Florida; nieces, Margie Delbert and husband Jim of Huntsville, Nelda Moore and husband Buddy Broome of Lovelady, Nannette Vondra of Lovelady, Bonnie Sauers and husband Donald of Nixon, Janet Robison of Spring, Elsie Hester of Palestine, Earlene Alverson of Centerville, Joyce Moore of Crockett and numerous other family and friends.

Audrey worked as a butcher in Houston during World War II at Pappas Food Market. Audrey was also a supervisor of housekeeping at Huntsville Memorial Hospital where she was a loyal employee for many years. She worked as housekeeper for Dr. and Mrs. Tommy Cole after her retirement from the hospital. Dr. Cole was not only her doctor, but a special and dear friend. She always thought of him as if he was her son.

She was a member of Family Faith Church in Huntsville.

Services for Mrs. Sloan will be in the First United Methodist Church in Lovelady, Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be from noon until service time in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be in Lovelady Antioch Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home - Huntsville.
