Treasurer's Mother Dies

Mrs. Augusta Britton, '74, West Frankfort, mother of Franklin County treasurer-elect, Jess Britton, died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. M. Jemison, West Frankfort.

Mrs. Britton, who had stayed up Tuesday night listening to election returns, suffered a stroke after going to bed. Her son won in the treasurer's race by more than 3,000 votes over Sheriff Paul Rice and was second-high vote-getter in the County.

Mrs. Britton came to Illinois from Alabama in 1920. Her husband, William H. [sic William M.] Britton, was killed at the Old Ben No. 8 mine in 1930.

She also leaves two other sons, Wallace of West Frankfort and Raymond of Hammond, Ind.; three other daughters, Mrs. Logan Graves and Mrs. John Coleman, both of West Frankfort, and several grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Union Funeral Home after 7 p.m. today. Other funeral arrangements are incomplete.
