DAY, Augustine

Augustine Day, age 87, died May 4, 2008 at Carrington Manor Nursing home in Starkville, Miss. following a lengthy illness. Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 8, 2008, 12:00 noon, at Egger Cemetery near Caledonia MS. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Columbus.

Mr. Day was born April 28, 1921, in Crosby, MS to the late Robert and Ida Belle Whittington Day. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He graduated from Copiah-Lincoln Junior College and earned a bachelor's degree in agriculture and a master's degree in entomology from Mississippi State University. He lived many years in Charleston, SC, where he was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a research entomologist and was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Marzee Myers Day; five sisters, Helen Day, Trudie Day, Ora Day Nyman, Maude Day and Hazel Day Amann, and two brothers, Delos Day and Robert Maxwell ``Mac'' Day.

He is survived by five children, Margaret Carol Day Allen and husband Robert J. Allen of Claremont, NC, Roger William Day and wife Wendy Day of Solon, Ohio, Richard Alton Day and wife Kathy Day of Atlanta, GA, Donald Alan Day and Daniel Bruce Day, both of Charleston, SC; his sister, Marguerite Day Shands Parker of Florence, Miss.; and six grandchildren, Frances Allen of Malden, NC, Christopher Allen of Claremont, NC, Kelly Day Miner and husband James Miner of Atlanta, GA, Stuart Day of Atlanta, GA, Ryan Day and Ashley Day of Solon, Ohio; and longtime friend, Dorothy ``Dot'' Parrish of Starkville, Miss.
