MURDER CHARGE FILED IN DEATH OF A. B. RENFRO

Special to The News.

BEAUMONT, May 31. -- A charge of murder was filed in Justice of the Peace Blades' court Thursday afternoon against H. J. Baugh in connection with the fatal shooting of his former son-in-law, Avery Brice Renfro, 31, at Baugh's home Wednesday about 11:30 p.m.

Bond for the accused man was due to be set at $1000.

Hit Under Heart

Renfro, brother of former Mayor P. D. Renfro, was wounded mortally under the heart with a .38 pistol bullet when he approached the Baugh house, 1919 Sabine Pass avenue, Night Police Capt. Jim Mulligan said after an investigation.

Baugh told officers it was the third time Renfro, a former city bus driver, had been to the house last night trying to see his former wife. When he came up with his hands in his pockets as if he might be concealing a weapon, Baugh fired the lone shot, he admitted. Mulligan said Renfro staggered about 50 feet and collapsed at the curb.

Officials here revealed the case apparently had a background of domestic strife, which resulted in child support hearings in district court and a justice of the peace court move Monday by Baugh and his daughter, Renfro's ex-wife, to have Renfrom placed under a peace bond.

A deputy constable served Renfro with a citation at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the peace bond proceeding, it was learned today. Soon afterward he evidently began trying to reach his former wife.

Arrangements Pending

Renfro's present wife was said to be in Temple where she was recovering in a hospital from auto accident injuries.

Carroll-Wallace funeral home was completing funeral arrangements. Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Mary Frances, and a son, Brice Renfro, all of Beaumont; one other brother, S. C. Renfro of Beaumont; two sisters, Mrs. Lila Bauser and Mrs. Nina [sic Nana] Laura Cudd of Houston; and his parents.
