Avis F. Laird

Avis Freeman Laird, 82, of Natchez, died May 18, 2001, at Natchez Community Hospital.

Visitation is 5-9 tonight at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville and will continue from 9 a.m. Monday until services at 2 p.m.at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Middleton Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Laird was born March 28, 1919, in Amite County. She was the daughter of Alex and Mada Westbrook Bass. She was retired from the State Hospital in Jackson, La., and was a member of Middleton Creek Primitive Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Claude Freeman Sr.; second husband, Earl Laird; and two daughters.

Survivors include three sons Claude Freeman Jr. and Wilburn Freeman, both of Liberty, and Jerry Freeman of Greensburg, La.; two brothers, Hilton Bass and J.C. Bass of Smithdale; two sisters, Dorothy Graham of Zachary, La., and Rena Hosto of Chicago; 10grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
