BULLOCK-DUFF
Thomas Franklin Bullock, his wife, Sarah Ellen (Duff) Whittington Patton
Bullock; two of his children by a prior marriage, Amos Bullock and
William Pendleton Bullock; two of her children by a prior marriage,
Lenora Delila Whittington and Commodore Emery Whittington; and Thomas
and Sarah Ellen's daughter, Florence Imogene Bullock, came to Brazos
County from Caldwell Parish, Louisiana about 1870 and settled in the
Reliance/Steep Hollow Community.
Thomas Bullock was born 30 October 1839 in Mississippi, probably in
Lawrence County, and was the oldest child of Samuel C. and Pamelia
(Willis) Bullock who went to Catahoula Parish, Louisiana about 1841,
then to Winn Parish by 1857 and to Brazos County about 1868-1870.
Sarah Ellen was born about 1837 in Mississippi, probably Wilkinson County,
to Edward and Delila (Thompson) Duff. On 17 March 1856 she married
Christopher C. Whittington in Caldwell Parish, Louisiana. They had
three children before he died 12 October 1863 from, it is believed,
illness contracted while besieged at Vicksburg. The children were
Cecil Tolbert, born about 1858 (who died young), Lenora Delila,
born about 1861, and Commodore Emery, born 25 June 1862.
Sarah Ellen next married J. S. Patton in Caldwell Parish on 14 April 1864.
He died before July 1866 without surviving issue of the marriage.
Sarah Ellen's third marriage was to Franklin Bullock on 2 July 1866 in
Caldwell Parish. He was a veteran of the 12th Regiment Louisiana
Infantry, CSA. Sarah Ellen and Thomas had one child, Florence Imogene,
born in October 1965 [sic, 1865] in Louisiana, probably Caldwell Parish.
On 13 December 1877 in Brazos County, Lenora Whittington married Jacob
Ezekiel Bullock, a younger brother of Lenora's step-father, Thomas F.
Bullock. Jacob was named after his mother's brother, Jacob Ezekiel Willis.
Lenora and Jacob had seven children: Effie Beatrice, born 21 February 1879,
who married James Thomas Sawyer, son of Willie J. and Augusta Ellen
(Thompson) Sawyer; Tolbert Eugene, born 17 July 1881, who married
Carrie Ellen Powers, daughter of Jno. M. and Laura (Hall) Powers;
Walter Horace, born 26 November 1884, who married Jenny Adella Garner;
Florence Olive, born 15 April 1887, who died young; Cora Emma, born
19 January 1889, who married Berry A. Risinger, son of Calvin A. and
Lou (Terry) Risinger; Commodore Elbert, born 3 March 1891, who did not
marry; and Lenora Delila, born 7 September 1894, who died young.
Lenora died in September 1894, presumably at the birth of her youngest
child and namesake. Lenora, Jacob and all of their children except
Effie, who is buried at Call, Newton County, are buried at Steep Hollow.
After Lenora's death, Jacob Bullock married Sarah Ann (Risinger) Hartsfield,
the widow of John H. Hartsfield. She was the daughter of Nathaniel T.
and Mary Ann Risinger and the mother of six Hartsfield children:
Isadre Ula, born 12 November 1883, who died young; Mary Lela,
born 31 August 1885; Amos Marion, born 19 September 1887; Lou Emma,
born 29 December 1888, who married Joe M. Bond; Charles Albert,
born 12 July 1891; and Carrie Maud, born 17 April 1893, who married
Hardy LeRoy Weedon, son of James H. and Margaret Marietta (Cook) Weedon.
Jacob and Sarah Ann (Risinger) Hartsfield Bullock had three children:
Lessie Ozell, born 29 May 1896, who married Brooks Beal; Jacob Elmer,
born 6 June 1897, who married Iva Mae Jones, daughter of William Franklin
and Mary Elizabeth (Wilson) Jones; and Joel Amzy, born 3 March 1899.
Commodore Emery Whittington, Sarah Ellen Duff's son by C. C. Whittington,
married Eleanor Louise McCullough, daughter of William and Elizabeth
(Felman) McCullough. They lived in Reliance and had no children.
Florence ``Flo'' Bullock, Sarah Ellen Duff's daughter by Thomas Franklin
Bullock, married Hugh Lemuel Bullock, thought to be a distant relative.
Flo and Hugh had six children: Howard H., born June 1888, who did not
marry; Otha Douglas, born January 1890, who married but had no children;
Lamar, born June 1892; Thomas Franklin, born 12 September 1900 who
married Henrietta M. Wagenfuhr, daughter of Henry and Aide (Guynemer)
Wagenfuhr and had Gloria La Clair; Linmore Loretta, born 9 May 1902,
who married Harry Alton Owen and had Linmore and Loretta Jane ``Billie'';
and Lola, born about 1906, who married twice but had no children.
About 1900 Thomas and Sarah Ellen Bullock, Commodore and Eleanor
Whittington and Hugh and Flo Bullock and their families moved to
San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas. Sarah Ellen died there in
September 1912. Thomas Bullock went to live with Flo in Shreveport,
Louisiana, where he died 8 February 1924.
