Samuel Belvin Thigpen
Funeral services for Samuel Belvin Thigpen age 94 of Sikes, LA will be held 2pm Sunday March 7,2010 from the Columbia chapel of Riser & Son Funeral Home with Rev. James Simons officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Old Hebron Cemetery at Sikes, LA. Visitation will be on Saturday evening at the Columbia location of Riser Funeral Home from 5pm until 9pm.
Samuel Belvin Thigpen was born November 1, 1915 at Chester, LA to the union of his beloved parents, the late William Inger Thigpen and Etta Beatrice Myers Thigpen. He was a member of the Old Hebron Baptist Church and served during World War II with the United States Army from 3 June 1942 to 9 February 1946. He served in the India Burma campaigns and received the American Theatre Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Campaign Medal with One Bronze Star, a Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Unit Award, Victory Ribbon with One Service Stripe and Four Overseas Service Bars. He was most proud of his Sharpshooter Rifle Accomplishment as he was a gun enthusiast.
Belvin was preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers Archie Thigpen and Carl Penn Thigpen.
Those left to cherish his memory include niece: Frances T. Price and husband Tommy of Bentley . Nephew: Neal Steven Thigpen of Dry Prong. Three great nieces, two great nephews, nine great- great nieces and two great- great nephews. He also leaves behind two special friends: David Herring of Sikes and Rev. James Simons of Winnfield.
Pallbearers include: David Herring, Gary Warren, Steven Thigpen, Gerald Poole, Jeff Price, and Cody Warren.
