RITES FOR BEN WHITTINGTON HELD IN CITY

Ben F. Whittington Passes Away In Mobile, Alabama, At Age of 73

Funeral services were scheduled to be held Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 30, for Ben F. Whittington, aged 73 years, who passed away in Mobile, Ala., at 1:30 Tuesday morning.

Mr. Whittington had made his home in Mobile for some time after having lived in McComb for many years. He was one of the best known of local people and was a highly respected resident of the city during his years of activity and many friends in this region mourn his passing.

Last rites were to be said from LaBranch Street Methodist church with Rev. R. I. Moore, pastor, officiating. Named as active pallbearers were Floyd Coke, J. B. Alford, Matt Harper, B. P. Albritton, Nick Tate and W. F. Jackson. Selected as honorary pallbearers were D. N. Terrell, W. H. Reaben, A. D. Smith, W. T. Denman Sr., B. B. Stamps, and B. V. Slader.

Mr. Whittington was a contractor and painter in his years in McComb and was considered one of the most versatile and accomplished in his field. His beloved wife passed away some time ago of juries sustained when she was struck by an automobile in Mobile.

He is survived by three sons, Oliver Whittington and Earl Whittington, both of Mobile, and Leroy Whittington, Baton Rouge, La., and other relatives who are joined by many friends in mourning.

Catchings Funeral Home is in charge of services and interment will be in Hollywood cemetery.
