Ben Simmons

Ben Simmons, 73, of Idalou, was called home to Glory on November 3, 2008. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church, Idalou, TX on Wednesday November 5, 2008, at 2 pm. A lunch will be served to the family at First Baptist Church at noon prior to services. Richard Grubbs and Philip Hilton are officiating. Interment is immediately following the services at Resthaven Cemetery.

Ben was born to Oscar Nathaniel and Georgia McCarty Simmons on February 16, 1935, in Sikes, LA. He attended Winnfield High School. Ben served in the US Navy from 1956 to 1960. Ben has been a resident of Lubbock, County since 1962, when he married JoDell Meyers on December 30th in Winn Parish, LA. They moved to Idalou in 1972 to raise their family. After 30 years of farming, Ben retired in 2002. He was a devoted man of God, loving husband, and father. He devoted 45 years of serving the Lord through Gideon's International. He and JoDell were members of the Cornerstone Bible Church.

Survivors include his wife JoDell Simmons of Idalou, three daughters all of Lubbock, Kari Wieberg and husband Nolan, Thea Combest, Elizabeth Stuart and husband David; six grandchildren all of Lubbock, Chase and Karisa Wieberg; Kelsey and Cody Combest; Vanessa and Bobby Stuart; one sister, Joy Tomlinson and husband Charles of Louisiana; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ben was preceded in death by two brothers, Lyndal Simmons of Gladewater, TX and Kermit Simmons of Lubbock. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Wright, Don Enger, Dwight Neas, Rufus Martinez, Randy Weaver and Verlin Anglin
