MRS. BERNIECE MATTHEWS
Mrs. Berniece Matthews, 60, Route 7, Laurel, died Saturday in Columbus after a brief illness.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the Pleasant Home Baptist Church, with burial in the Matthews' cemetery. The Rev. Martin Hayden will officiate.
Mrs. Matthews was a secretary and bookkeeper for Matthews Wheel Alignment and a former teller with Commercial National Bank. She was a retired music teacher for Jones County schools, and served as secretary for the Union Line home demonstration club. She was a member of the Jones County Democratic Executive Committee.
She is survived by her widower, Benton H. Matthews; and two sons, Allen Matthews and Lee Matthews, both of Laurel.
Pallbearers will be Adrian Warren, Bob Henry Parker, Don Matthews, Latrelle Matthews, F. C. Parker and Billy Valentine.
Thompson Funeral Home is in charge.
