Mrs. C. B. Payne Dies; Interment At Gansville
Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Gay Waters Payne were held Friday, February
12, 1971, at the Dodson Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. C. S. Cadwallader
of Minden, Rev. W. R. Gage of Winnfield, Rev. E. B. Beams, pastor of Dodson
Baptist Church, officiating at the services.
Mrs. Payne died after a lengthy illness at the Lincoln General Hospital in
Ruston, on February 11, 1971.
She was a member of the Dodson Baptist Church, and was an employee of the Winn
Parish School Board in Dodson. She was a former bookkeeper for Hunt Lumber
Company and had operated a general store and station with her husband in
Dodson. She was well known in the business community of Winn Parish and will
be missed by a wide circle of acquaintances. She was a dutiful daughter,
a faithful wife, and a beloved mother. Her memory will remain alive
and cherished by a host of relatives and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Carthal B. Payne; three daughters, Mrs. C. E.
Smiley, Miss Judy Payne, and Miss Carla Payne; and one grandson, Erin Shane
Smiley; her mother, Mrs. Bertha Stovall, all of Dodson; and one sister, Mrs.
Dale Gaharan of Delhi.
The pallbearers were Kermit M. Simmons, James F. Bennett, Clayton Norred, E.
F. Broomfield, Wayne Parker, and Huey Williamson.
Interment was in Gansville Cemetery in the family plot under direction of
Southern Funeral Home.
