Bertis T. McDaniel Jr.
Bertis Thayer McDaniel Jr., 72, of Osyka, died May 22, 2003,at his residence.
Visitation is 5-9 tonight at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb and continues at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Osyka, until services there at 2 p.m. The Rev. Leon Carpenter and the Rev. Nathan Firmin will officiate. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Kentwood.
Mr. McDaniel was born March 20, 1931, in Tangipahoa Parish, La. He was the son of Bertis T. McDaniel Sr. and Edith Holmes McDaniel. He was a retired truck driver and a former Louisiana State Trooper and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Osyka, where he was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class and was a former deacon.
Mr. McDaniel was preceded in death by his parents; four sons, William, Keith, Lonnie and Andy McDaniel; two daughters, Cynthia and Lela McDaniel; one brother, Jackson V. McDaniel; and his father-in-law, the Rev. W.D. Grant.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 51 years, Amy Grant McDaniel of Osyka; one son and daughter-in-law, James Darrell and Shannon McDaniel of Magnolia; two daughters and one son-in-law, Debra and Richard Lee, and Sheila Shropshire, all of McComb; one sister, Viola Miller of East Fork, La.; his mother-in-law, Victoria Grant of Winnsboro, La.; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
