Louise McCarty

Services for Miss Louise McCarty, age 87, of Route 3, Quitman, were held August 7, 1990, at McGowans Chapel Methodist Church with Wright's Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Burial was at McGowans Chapel Cemetery.

Miss McCarty passed away August 5, 1990, at H.C. Watkins Hospital.

She is survived by her brother, I.H. McCarty, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four sisters, Kate Lee Waddell, Hattiesburg; Mary Walker, Hattiesburg; Ruth Kean, Hattiesburg; Sarah McCarty, New Orleans, La., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Miss McCarty was a native of Clarke County. She was a long time educator and a graduate of the University of Alabama. She served in the teaching profession for 41 years including Indianola and Jackson County schools and as elementary supervisor in Clarke County until her retirement.

A high ranking DAR officer for many years, she was an active member of the Sam Dale Chapter in Meridian. She served as State Chaplin, State Second Vice Regent and State District Director.

Miss McCarty also served as past Regent of Sam Dale Chapter in Meridian and Past President of Colonial Danes [sic Dames] of America, Chapter 15. She participated in many civic, charitable, and philanthropic activities. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church.
