Betty Jean Walters

Betty Jean Walters, 71, of Laurel, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at South Central Regional Medical Center.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 19, at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jones County. A nephew, Reed Walters will officiate.

She was a den mother for the cub scouts and the Webelos Den Leader. She was one of the first women to receive the prestigious rank of Silver Beaver Award. She was once owner and operator of the First Avenue Curb Store for 8 years. She was a faithful, loving wife. She was a very carrying and loving mother, daughter, grandmother, sister and upcoming great-grandmother. Also, she was the truest friend a person could ask for. She was a firm believer in the Lord and she lived by his word.

She was preceded in death by her father, C. A. Hankins; three sons, James Phillips, Robert Bobby Walters, and Gary Dwayne Walters.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Gary Walters; her mother, Bertha Lee Hankins; one son, Dwight C. Phillips; brother, Billy Ray Hankins; sister-in-law, Dianne Hankins; three daughters-in-law, Arlene Phillips, Winnie Dearman, and Jenny Walters; grandchildren, Robert James Phillips, Dwanna Jean Phillips, Michael Steven Phillips, Michael Wyndell Dearman, Wayndoline Michelle Dearman, and Tera Katlyn Walters, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandnieces, grandnephews, and in-laws. Also, a countless number of friends.

Pallbearers will be Michael W. Dearman, Josh R. Hawk, James C. Polson, Bradley E. Mitchell, John W. Parker and Norman M. Polson.
