Betty Lou Brock

Betty Lou Brock, 85, went to be Jesus on Thursday, December 22, 2011, four days shy of her 86th birthday. She passed away peacefully at her home in Greer, South Carolina, with her family by her side until the end.

Born on December 26, 1925, in Louin, Mississippi, she was the daughter of Benjamin and Virgie (nee McCarty) Halford. Mrs. Brock was married to John Weldon Brock, who predeceased her on December 26, 1992. Formerly of Gautier, Mississippi, she retired from the Gautier Police Department in 1997 after 25 years of service as a crossing guard at College Park Elementary and Gautier Junior High. Mrs. Brock was a devout Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Gautier. She was a passionate gardener and loved growing heirloom tomatoes. She enjoyed cooking for, and spending time with, her three grandchildren.

Surviving Mrs. Brock are her daughter and only child, the light of her life, Connie Francis (Brock) Medley; Her son-in-law, whom she loved like her own son, Millard Keith Medley; Her three grandchildren, whom she adored and was so very proud of: Millard Brock Medley, Esq., Andrea Francis Medley, and Daniel Keith Medley; and her sister, Mary Edith Turner.

She is predeceased by 13 siblings: Thelma Drinkwine, Levert Brown, Leora Hendrickson, Zelma Ryan, Barbara Ishee, Helen Halford, Dorothy Rose Halford, Houston Halford, John Leeland Halford, George Gradell Halford, James Allen Halford, Frank Halford, and Walter Lavon Halford.

The family will be receiving friends on Monday, December 26th, from 5 pm until 7 pm, with a chapel service to be held on Tuesday, December 27th, at 11 am, all at the Bradford-O'keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs. Burial will follow at Pine Crest Cemetery behind First Baptist Church of Gautier.
